Research and design an online insurance company focused on direct-to-consumer policy purchasing and management.
Kaus has been in the insurance business for over 30 years. The company originally sold policies through insurance agents and is looking to change their business model to a directly to consumer sales method.
Kaus has been losing marketshare to competitors, the company needs to build a unique online insurance store that focuses on a younger generation of insurance buyers.
Design a responsive user interface that recognizes user challenges and creates a welcoming, trustworthy environment to learn and understand policy choices before ultimately purchasing an insurance plan.
Design
Before building our hi-fidelity user interface, we began sketching logos and developing a style tile that allows us to quickly implement components such as buttons, input fields and card modules, across the user interface. The style tile also gives initial design impressions of colors, typography, icons and images that will be used site-wide.
Testing and Iterating
Through Maze user research as well as one-on-one usability testing, we were able to iterate on the original Kaus User Interface by recognizing problem areas, understanding design flaws and creating solutions.
• 6 Participants
• Google Meet, Maze and Figma Prototyping Tools.
• All tasks completed in about three minutes.
• 100% of participants completed all tasks.
This project was completed over a 4-week time period and I'd certainly consider adding more information related to the insurance products themselves. Would be great to add additional interactive tools and improve the help center experience as well as extend policy type options.
The insurance industry is incredibly complex but the ultimate goal of this case study was to simplify the insurance buying and managing process.
After making the necessary changes to our interface in Figma, the product is finished and ready to send to stakeholders. Further iterations, usability testing and interface design changes may take place as we enter the project maintenance stage.
This was my first case study and offered many areas to improve upon as I moved into future projects.
